Missy, 5 years old, was rescued in 2010 by BMDC of Southern California and came to her forever home on July 19, 2010.  Missy grew up as a backyard dog.  Therefore, she did not have much socialization.  When she arrived she had and still has no clue about ‘normal’ Berner things.  She didn’t know  that she could live inside the house and still occasionally darts through the door instead of walking calmly.  Missy seems to have no idea about space, she will get right in her “sister” Emma’s face.  Emma barks to let her know she’s too close, but Missy just doesn’t get it.
She loves to hang out in the in the farthest corner of the front yard and watch everything going on.  Missy is learning how to enjoy going on long walks and now (after 6 months) gets very excited and bouncy when we bring out her harness and leash.  She knows she’s going out, and she’s even started to sniff and explore along the path on our walks, which she didn’t do for the first 3 or 4 months.  Missy doesn’t seem to know how to play with toys, but she will occasionally pickup her toy and race around the yard.  She seems to adore Emma.  Unfortunately, the feeling is not mutual, Emma seems to just tolerate her.  Missy is slowly learning some manners, such as not to paw at us.  Food is a motivator for her, she really loves meal time.
Missy craves attention and is learning how to hug.  She is such a cutie-pie.  Being close and loving is one of the things Missy does best.   It’s a joy to watch her blossom, learn and to discover how to be a Berner kid.
We love Missy and know she will grow into herself one day.  We are so glad that we are able to give her a real life.
