BARC’S Murphy
AKC reg. BARC’s Butterside Up Berner-Garde 66669
DOB 3/27/2008 AKC DNA V582014

Murphy was rescued from a puppy mill, along with his brother, by an angel from BARC when he was 7 mos. old. Because there was a raccoon in his pen the day before he was rescued, the Department of Agriculture required that he be quarantined for 6 months due to the risk of rabies exposure. Lucky boy, he was fostered for those 6 months by Nicole Hadley, who taught him his house manners and loved him.

In the meantime I was grieving the loss of my first Berner, Mallomar, to cancer at age 5. My BARC boy Jake was a great comfort to me, but after 6 months the pain of the loss had lessened but not the void. I needed another Berner. Another BARC angel sent me an email about Murphy, suggesting that maybe I was ready and that he might be the perfect match for me. I wasted no time getting in touch with Nicole to arrange to meet Murphy. I took Jake with me and we both agreed that Murphy should come home with us when his quarantine was up.

On April 24, 2009 Murphy came to his forever home. He fit in immediately and made himself right at home. He healed my heart and I think Jake was happy to have another Berner buddy. He is a very loving, cuddly and goofy boy. I feel so blessed to be his mom.

We have been doing obedience training and he has earned 2 legs towards his Rally Novice title. Murphy and I decided to try drafting and he turned out to be a natural!. It only took 15 minutes from the time I put his harness on for the first time until he was hitched up to the cart and pulling. Our goal is to get that 3rd leg and title in Rally Novice and a Novice Draft Dog title at the specialty here in Gettysburg this year.

I look forward to a long and active life with my Murphy-man.
