Davis - Bailey - North Pole, AK
Santa’s Baileys and Cream
September 2003 – January 4, 2013
HI! My name is Bailey! Thank you for stopping by to read my story! I was born in September of 2003, at Lanes End Kennel, in Ohio. I would love to be able to tell you who my Mom & Dad were, but my breeder would not give my new family any information about me. My new owners were able to figure out who my breeder was by researching my micro-chip, which was implanted by my breeder but never activated by my original owners.
I was sent to live with a family in Anchorage, Alaska, soon after being weaned from my mother. I lived with them for over five years in what I thought was my forever home. One day, I found myself taking a car ride with the couple’s nanny to a strange, scary place where I was put in a cage in a large building with many other dogs and cats. I later found out that this place was the Anchorage Animal Shelter. I don’t know what I did to make them abandon me like that. I was really scared! Thankfully, I only had to stay there for three days! A friend of the nanny found out where I was and came and got me
The Nanny’s friend welcomed me into her home and gave me a nice bath and some wonderful food. Unfortunately, my stay with them was cut short because she had a child who became very ill the first week I was there, and they were going to have to go to Seattle for a lengthy stay. So, she placed an ad on Craigslist, hoping to find a new home for me very quickly. Luckily for me, the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Alaska regularly scans Craigslist and other online advertising forums looking for Berners in need of rescue. My rescue was set in motion and messages were sent out to all Club members asking for assistance. My temporary family had to leave for Seattle on Sunday, which left only three days for someone to help me; otherwise I was going to be returned to the Animal Shelter. Lucky for me, Ron and Kristi Davis, of North Pole, Alaska were able to come and get me!
In my new home, I lived with Ron & Kristi, and 5 other Berners (Denali, McKinley, Buster, Holly & Emma) and a Chihuahua/Maltese rescue, (Dinah) and a Bassett Hound named Rusty. Emma had a litter of 6 puppies in 2012, and they were pests at first, but after a while they weren’t so bad to play with. Two of the pups, Cassi and Sprig, are staying here forever! I learned how to walk on a leash and behave in public. I was able to be outside and lay in my fenced in yard, or come in whenever I want, and I get to sleep in bed with them! Because of my hips I wasn’t able to jump up on the bed anymore, so they would lift me in when I asked, and that is where I slept every night!
As you may have already guessed, I recently have come to live with Sherman, and I am waiting patiently for my family and friends to come and play here with me. I sure miss Ron & Kristi and everybody else. I wish we would have had more time to say goodbye, but I left knowing that they loved me very much and miss me. I really miss them too
