Rescue: Heidi BG # 93058
Heidi was bought from a mall pet store to become a family pet and possibly bred. At 2 years old, she was tethered in the back of the owner’s truck. He took off, not realizing she had jumped out and had been dragged 150 feet. A bystander finally stopped him. They picked up this broken and bloodied dog and rushed her to a local emergency clinic to see if she could be saved. One year later, $10,000 in bills, three toe amputations and multiple surgeries later, Heidi recovered to the best the vet could possibly do. One year later, her owners went through a divorce, with the wife taking Heidi out of spite. Heidi was left abandoned in the back yard, to live each day without any love or affection. When the wife was evicted from her house, she called her ex-husband and told him he needed to get Heidi or she would turn her loose on the street. Fortunately for Heidi, the husband called the Arizona Rescue. When the Rescue met him at a park, he relayed Heidi’s past, signed the forms releasing her and drove away, never looking back. Heidi’s luck was about to change, as she was placed with a wonderful foster family, Mark and Paula Henning. I’m sure they never imagined they would be Heidi’s parents for a full year.
From what we were told, beautiful Heidi was dirty, matted, and smelly. Her wonderful foster parents went to work washing and grooming her. Spending hours of patient grooming, she looked great. Heidi was taken to the vet for a checkup and got spayed. For all that she had been through, she was in great shape. She wouldn’t touch her dog food, so she was taught to eat again. She was such a happy go-lucky girl, but had some issues with other dogs. Heidi was adopted by another family, but they had another dog and it didn’t work out. So, Heidi went back to the Henning’s. That’s where we come in!
While surfing the net one night, I found the Arizona Rescue, saw Heidi’s beautiful picture and knew we needed to have her in our lives. We have no other pets, which is what Heidi needed. I immediately contacted the rescue, filled out the forms and went through with the adoption. My heart broke for her when I found out all she had gone through. Heidi is such a bright spot in our lives! She loves to be in human contact and is the most loving, affectionate, and clingy friend (did I mention clingy?!?). She is 8 years old, but I’m convinced she is an eternal puppy! Despite her less than perfect feet, she races through the house and the backyard like she’s 6 months old. She is always by our sides and wants to know where we are at all times. I can’t imagine Heidi not being a part of our family.
